Meet The Anesthesiologist

Ron Abrams, MD

Dr. Abrams received his M.D. degree from the University of Washington where he also did a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and in Anesthesiology. He is board certified, a diplomat of the American Board of Anesthesiology. He established the Anesthesia department at Valley Medical Center in Renton in 1977 and at Evergreen Surgical Center in 1983 where he also served as Medical Director for 20 years. He currently specializes exclusively in Outpatient Surgery Anesthesia with special emphasis on Outpatient Anesthesia for Weight Loss Surgery. He collaborated with Drs. Montgomery and Watkins in the development of an Outpatient Surgical approach to LAP-BAND Surgery.

Marc Erlitz, MD

Marc Erlitz, MD is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Rochester. He earned his MD degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed his specialty training in anesthesiology at the University of Washington, where he served as chief resident. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology. Together with his associates, Drs. Ronald Abrams and James Scurlock, he established one of the first free-standing ambulatory surgical centers in Washington State. He has dedicated his entire practice to outpatient surgery and has a special interest in providing anesthesia care for patients undergoing surgical treatment for obesity.

James E. Scurlock, M.D.

I am a Board Certified Anesthesiologist who has been doing anesthetics for outpatient surgery for the past twenty years. It has always been my goal not only to give each patient safe passage through their surgical experience but also to have them awaken quickly with the absolute minimum of discomfort or other side effects. With the facilities at Northwest Weight Loss Surgery and techniques developed over the years by me and my colleagues this goal is accomplished with almost every patient.
